Planting Instructions:

  1. Seed Preparation:
    • Soak the seeds in warm water for 24-48 hours to help soften the seed coat and improve germination rates.
    • Stratify the seeds by placing them in a moist medium (such as sand or peat moss) in the refrigerator for 60-90 days to mimic natural winter conditions.
  2. Sowing:
    • After stratification, sow the seeds 1/2 inch deep in seed-starting trays or pots filled with a well-draining potting mix.
    • Lightly cover the seeds with soil and water gently to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
  3. Germination:
    • Place the trays or pots in a warm location with indirect light.
    • Maintain consistent moisture and warmth, around 70-75°F (21-24°C), for optimal germination.
    • Germination can take several weeks to a few months, so be patient and keep the soil consistently moist.
  4. Transplanting:
    • Once seedlings have developed a few sets of true leaves and are sturdy enough to handle, transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden.
    • Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil.
    • Space the young trees at least 15-20 feet apart to allow for their mature size.
  5. Care and Maintenance:
    • Water the young trees regularly during their first few years to establish a strong root system.
    • Mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
    • Prune as needed to remove dead or damaged branches and to shape the tree.
