Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
No special seed preparation is required. However, you can lightly scarify the seeds to improve germination if desired.
Sowing:
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost date or directly outdoors after the last frost. For indoor sowing, use seed-starting trays with a sterile, well-draining seed-starting mix. Lightly press the seeds onto the surface of the soil without covering them. For direct sowing, scatter seeds on the soil surface and lightly press them in. Space seeds 12-18 inches apart.
Germination:
Seeds typically germinate within 10-14 days under optimal conditions. Maintain a soil temperature of 65-75°F (18-24°C) for best results. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
Transplanting:
For indoor-grown seedlings, transplant them to outdoor locations after the last frost date when they have developed at least two sets of true leaves. Transplant seedlings 18-24 inches apart to accommodate their mature size.
Care and Maintenance:
Water plants regularly during the growing season, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Mulch around the base of the plants to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Trim back the grass in late winter or early spring to remove any dead foliage and encourage fresh growth.
