Cold Stratification: To break dormancy, place Canadian wild ginger seeds in a sealed plastic bag or airtight container with a moistened, sterile medium like peat moss or vermiculite. Store in the refrigerator for 6-8 weeks.
Seed Sowing: After stratification, prepare a seed tray or small pots with a well-draining seed-starting mix. Lightly moisten the soil, then place seeds on the surface, pressing gently without covering.
Germination: Keep the trays or pots in a warm area with indirect light at around 70°F. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid overwatering. Germination can take several weeks.
Transplanting: When seedlings develop a few true leaves, transplant them into individual pots or a garden bed with rich, well-draining soil. Space seedlings 6-12 inches apart.
Care: Provide shade or partial shade for young plants, and water regularly to keep the soil moist. Over time, the plants will spread to form a dense ground cover.
