Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Lily seeds benefit from a process called stratification to break dormancy. Place the seeds in a moist paper towel inside a plastic bag and refrigerate for 4-6 weeks before planting.
Sowing:
Plant the prepared seeds 1/4 inch deep in pots or seed-starting trays filled with a well-draining potting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Maintain a temperature of 65-75°F (18-24°C) for optimal germination.
Germination:
Germination usually occurs within 2-4 weeks, though it can take longer. Once seedlings emerge, provide them with ample light. A sunny windowsill or grow lights can be used.
Transplanting:
When seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves and are sturdy enough to handle, transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden. Space plants 12-18 inches apart to allow for proper air circulation and growth. Choose a location with well-drained soil and adequate sunlight.
Care and Maintenance:
Water lilies regularly, aiming to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Mulch around the base of the plants to help retain moisture and suppress weeds. Protect plants from strong winds and heavy rain, as lily stems can be delicate and prone to breakage.
