Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
No special preparation is needed for Antirrhinum seeds. However, for best results, you may lightly press the seeds into the soil without covering them, as they require light for germination.
Sowing:
Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost.
Fill seed trays or pots with a well-draining seed starting mix and lightly press the seeds onto the surface. Do not cover the seeds, as they need light to germinate.
Mist the soil lightly with water to keep it moist but not waterlogged.
Germination:
Place the seed trays in a location with bright, indirect light.
Maintain a consistent soil temperature of 65-70°F (18-21°C).
Germination typically takes 10-21 days. Keep the soil consistently moist during this period.
Transplanting:
Once seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves and the danger of frost has passed, they can be transplanted outdoors.
Harden off the seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week.
Plant the seedlings in well-drained, fertile soil, spacing them 12-18 inches apart.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly, ensuring the soil remains evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.
Mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Pinch back the growing tips of young plants to encourage bushier growth and more blooms.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.
Happy Gardening!
