Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Begonia seeds are extremely fine and require no special treatment before sowing. Handle them with care to avoid loss.
Sowing:
Start the seeds indoors 8-12 weeks before the last expected frost date.
Fill seed trays or small pots with a sterile seed-starting mix.
Sprinkle the seeds thinly on the surface of the soil. Do not cover the seeds with soil, as they need light to germinate.
Lightly mist the surface with water to settle the seeds.
Germination:
Cover the seed tray or pots with a clear plastic cover or plastic wrap to maintain humidity.
Place the tray in a warm location with indirect light, maintaining a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C).
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically takes 14-21 days.
Transplanting:
Once seedlings have at least two true leaves and are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.
Harden off the seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7-10 days.
Transplant the seedlings into their final location after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them 8-12 inches apart.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist but avoid overwatering, which can cause root rot.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming and to keep plants tidy.
Mulch around plants to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Begonias prefer cooler temperatures and do best in partial to full shade. Protect them from direct, hot sunlight.
Happy Gardening!
