Shelf Life : Best planted within 1 year for maximum germination
Planting Instructions
Seed Preparation:
No special preparation required. Seeds can be sown directly into the garden.
Sowing:
Direct Sowing: Sow seeds directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.
Spacing: Sow seeds ¼ inch deep and about 12 inches apart in rows or clusters.
Thinning: Thin seedlings to 12-18 inches apart when they are about 2 inches tall.
Germination:
Time: Seeds typically germinate in 10 to 14 days.
Temperature: Ideal soil temperature for germination is between 60°F and 70°F (15°C to 21°C).
Transplanting:
Transplanting: Generally not recommended due to the delicate root system. If starting indoors, use biodegradable pots to minimize root disturbance when transplanting.
Care and Maintenance:
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.
Fertilizing: Dill generally does not require additional fertilization if planted in fertile soil. However, a light application of balanced fertilizer can be applied if growth is slow.
Weeding: Keep the area weed-free to reduce competition for nutrients and water.
Pests/Diseases: Watch for aphids and caterpillars. Use organic pest control methods if needed.
Harvesting: Harvest leaves as needed once plants reach about 8 inches tall. For seeds, allow the plant to flower and then collect seeds after they turn brown.
By following these guidelines, you can successfully grow Bouquet Dill and enjoy its many culinary and ornamental uses.
