PLANTING TIME: Sow Cannonball Gourd seeds in late spring or early summer, after the last frost, ensuring the soil temperature is at least 60°F for optimal germination.
SEEDING DEPTH & SPACING: Plant seeds 1 inch deep, spacing them 3-4 feet apart. If planting multiple rows, keep the rows at least 6 feet apart to allow for proper growth.
WATERING: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, ensuring it doesn’t become waterlogged. Regular watering is essential throughout the growing season.
THINNING: Once seedlings reach about 6 inches tall, thin them out to leave one plant every 3-4 feet to give each plant ample space to grow.
HARVESTING: Harvest when the stems start to turn brown and dry. Cut the gourds, leaving a 1-inch stem, and allow them to dry completely in a warm, dry location for several weeks before using or storing.
