Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Coriander seeds do not require any special preparation before planting. However, you can slightly crush the seeds to speed up germination.
Sowing:
Choose a sunny spot in your garden or use containers with good drainage. Sow the seeds directly in the soil about 1/4 inch deep and cover lightly with soil. Space the seeds about 6 inches apart if sowing directly in the ground. Water the soil gently to keep it moist but not waterlogged.
Germination:
Coriander seeds typically germinate within 7 to 21 days, depending on the soil temperature and conditions. Keep the soil consistently moist during the germination period. Optimal germination occurs at soil temperatures between 55°F and 68°F (13°C to 20°C).
Transplanting:
Coriander does not transplant well due to its long taproot. It is best to sow seeds directly in their final growing location. If starting indoors, use biodegradable pots to minimize root disturbance when transplanting.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods. Mulch around the plants to help retain moisture and suppress weeds. Thin seedlings to 6 inches apart to allow for proper air circulation and growth. Harvest the leaves (cilantro) as needed once the plants reach about 6 inches in height. Regular harvesting will encourage bushier growth. To harvest coriander seeds, allow the plant to flower and form seeds. Once the seeds turn brown and dry, cut the seed heads and place them in a paper bag to finish drying. Store the seeds in an airtight container.
Happy gardening!
