Planting Instructions
Seed Preparation:
Garlic does not grow from seeds but from cloves. Separate cloves from the bulb just before planting, ensuring they are firm and disease-free.
Sowing:
Plant cloves pointy end up, 2-3 inches deep and 4-6 inches apart in rows spaced 12-18 inches apart.
Ensure the cloves are planted in soil that is well-drained and has good fertility.
Germination:
Garlic cloves will start to sprout roots and shoots within a few weeks, depending on soil temperature and moisture.
Transplanting:
No transplanting is needed as garlic cloves are planted directly into their permanent location.
Care and Maintenance:
Water garlic regularly, especially during dry spells, but avoid overwatering as garlic prefers slightly dry conditions.
Mulch around garlic plants to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and protect roots.
Remove any flower shoots that emerge (called scapes) to divert energy back to bulb growth.
Harvest garlic when the tops are yellow and fall over, typically in late spring or early summer. Allow bulbs to dry in a well-ventilated area for a few weeks before storing.
