Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting to soften the seed coat and improve germination rates. Alternatively, scarify the seeds lightly using sandpaper to help water penetrate and promote germination.
Sowing:
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Use a seed-starting mix and plant seeds 1/4 inch deep. Maintain a soil temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C) for optimal germination.
Germination:
Seeds typically germinate within 2-3 weeks under optimal conditions. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period.
Transplanting:
Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost date and once they have developed a strong root system and at least 2-3 sets of true leaves. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week before transplanting. Space seedlings 10-15 feet apart in well-drained soil in a location that receives full sun to partial shade.
Care and Maintenance:
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods and while the tree is establishing. Once established, Euodia Hupehensis is relatively drought-tolerant. Mulching: Apply mulch around the base of the tree to retain soil moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds. Pruning: Prune young trees to establish a strong framework and remove any dead, diseased, or crossing branches. Minimal pruning is needed once the tree is established.
