Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 4-6 hours before planting to soften the seed coat and promote faster germination.
Sowing:
Directly sow seeds outdoors after the last frost date when the soil temperature has warmed to at least 60°F (16°C). Plant seeds 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep and 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) apart in rows spaced 24-36 inches (60-90 cm) apart. Provide support with stakes, trellises, or poles immediately after planting to support the climbing growth habit of pole beans.
Germination:
Yellow Wax Bean seeds typically germinate within 7-14 days. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period.
Transplanting:
Yellow Wax Beans are usually direct-sown and do not require transplanting. If starting seeds indoors, plant them in biodegradable pots to minimize root disturbance and transplant them outdoors once the soil has warmed and all danger of frost has passed.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly, providing 1-1.5 inches (2.5-3.75 cm) of water per week, especially during dry periods. Mulch around plants to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Ensure the plants are securely attached to their supports as they grow. Monitor for pests such as aphids, bean beetles, and spider mites, and treat as necessary using organic methods. Harvest yellow wax beans when they are young and tender, typically 50-60 days after planting. Use scissors or garden shears to cut the beans from the plant, avoiding damage to the stems.
Happy gardening!
