Planting Instructions
Seed Preparation:
Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 12-24 hours before sowing to enhance germination.
Sowing:
Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Germination:
Place seed trays in a warm, bright location. Maintain a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C). Germination should occur within 7-14 days.
Transplanting:
Transplant seedlings outdoors when they have 2-3 true leaves and the danger of frost has passed. Space plants 18-24 inches apart in rows 24-36 inches apart. Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for 7-10 days before transplanting.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist. Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest kalettes when the small, kale-like sprouts form along the stems, typically 4-5 months after planting.
