Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Soak the mangosteen seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting to soften the seed coat and improve germination.
Sowing:
Fill small pots or seed trays with a well-draining potting mix. Plant the soaked seeds 1 inch deep in the soil and cover lightly with additional potting mix. Water the soil thoroughly after planting to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
Germination:
Place the seed trays or pots in a warm, humid location with temperatures consistently around 80-90°F (27-32°C). Mangosteen seeds typically germinate within 2-4 weeks, but they may take longer, so be patient. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period to support seedling growth.
Transplanting:
Once the mangosteen seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves and are sturdy enough to handle, transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden. Choose a planting location with full sun to partial shade and well-drained, fertile soil. Space mango Steen trees at least 20-25 feet apart to allow for their mature size and adequate airflow.
Care and Maintenance:
Water young mangosteen trees regularly, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the trees to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Prune mangosteen trees as needed to remove dead or damaged branches and maintain a desirable shape. Protect young mangosteen trees from frost or cold temperatures by covering them with frost cloth or bringing them indoors during winter months.
Happy gardening!
