Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
No special seed preparation is required for Organic White Beet Root seeds. However, you can soak the seeds in water for 24 hours before planting to soften the seed coat and promote germination.
Sowing:
Directly sow seeds outdoors in early spring, once the soil temperature reaches at least 50°F (10°C) and is workable. Plant seeds 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) deep in the soil, spacing them 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) apart in rows. Allow 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) between rows to allow for root development.
Germination:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period. Seeds typically germinate within 7-14 days under optimal conditions. Maintain a soil temperature of around 55-75°F (13-24°C) for best germination results.
Transplanting:
Beet seeds do not transplant well due to their delicate taproot. Direct sowing is the preferred method.
Care and Maintenance:
Water beet plants regularly, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist throughout the growing season. Avoid overwatering, as it may cause rotting. Mulch around plants to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. Thin seedlings when they reach 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) tall, leaving the strongest plants spaced 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) apart. Monitor for pests such as aphids, flea beetles, and leaf miners, and treat as necessary using organic methods. Harvest beet roots when they reach the desired size, typically 60-70 days after planting. Harvest greens as needed, leaving at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) of growth to promote regrowth.
Happy gardening!
