Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Soak seeds in warm water for 6-8 hours before planting to enhance germination.
Sowing:
Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost date. Fill seed trays or small pots with a well-draining seed starting mix. Sow seeds 1/4 inch (6 mm) deep in the soil. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and maintain a temperature of 70-85°F (21-29°C).
Germination:
Seeds typically germinate within 7-14 days under optimal conditions. Place seed trays or pots in a warm, bright location with plenty of sunlight or under grow lights.
Transplanting:
Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7-10 days. Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost date when the soil temperature is consistently above 60°F (16°C). Space plants 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) apart in rows, with rows spaced 24-36 inches (60-90 cm) apart.
Care and Maintenance:
Water plants regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Mulch around plants to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and maintain soil temperature. Provide support for plants if necessary, especially for taller varieties or in windy areas. Monitor for pests such as aphids, spider mites, and caterpillars, and treat as necessary using organic methods. Harvest peppers when they reach the desired size and color, typically 70-90 days after transplanting.
Happy gardening!
