Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Soak seeds in warm water for 12-24 hours to soften the seed coat and encourage germination.
Sowing:
Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost date. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix or peat pots. Maintain a soil temperature of 75-85°F (24-29°C) for optimal germination.
Germination:
Seeds typically germinate in 7-21 days. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period. Provide plenty of light, either from a sunny window or grow lights.
Transplanting:
Transplant seedlings outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed to at least 70°F (21°C). Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7-10 days. Space plants 18-24 inches apart in rows 24-36 inches apart.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly, providing 1-2 inches of water per week. Ensure even moisture to prevent blossom-end rot. Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Support plants with stakes or cages if necessary to keep them upright and prevent breakage. Monitor for pests such as aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Use organic or chemical controls as needed. Harvest peppers when they are fully mature and have reached their desired color (typically red or orange). Use gloves when handling hot peppers to avoid skin irritation.
Happy gardening!
