Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Stratify seeds by placing them in a damp paper towel inside a plastic bag. Refrigerate for 2-3 weeks before sowing to improve germination rates.
Sowing:
Sow seeds indoors in late winter or early spring. Use seed trays or small pots filled with a well-draining seed-starting mix. Sow seeds on the surface of the soil and press them lightly, but do not cover them, as they need light to germinate.
Germination:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Place the trays or pots in a location with indirect light. Maintain a temperature of around 15-20°C (59-68°F). Germination typically occurs within 2-4 weeks.
Transplanting:
When seedlings are large enough to handle and have at least two true leaves, transplant them into individual pots. Harden off the seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days. Transplant seedlings into the garden in late spring or early summer, spacing them 6-9 inches apart in a shady location with moist, well-draining soil.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly to keep the soil moist, especially during dry periods. Mulch around the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Remove spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming. Protect plants from slugs and snails, which can be a common pest for Primula Kisoana.
