Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
No special preparation required, but for better results, you can stratify the seeds by placing them in a refrigerator for 2-4 weeks before planting.
Sowing:
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Use a seed-starting mix and plant seeds on the surface of the soil, pressing them in lightly but not covering them completely as they need light to germinate. Alternatively, seeds can be direct-sown outdoors after the last frost when the soil has warmed.
Germination:
Seeds typically germinate within 14-21 days under optimal conditions. Maintain a soil temperature of 65-70°F (18-21°C). Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period.
Transplanting:
When seedlings have developed at least two true leaves and after the danger of frost has passed, harden them off by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week. Transplant seedlings outdoors, spacing them 12-18 inches apart in well-prepared garden beds.
Care and Maintenance:
Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases. Mulching: Apply mulch around the base of the plants to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Deadheading: Remove spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming and prevent self-seeding. Support: Taller plants may benefit from staking to keep them upright, especially in windy areas.
Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas.
Happy gardening!
