Seed Preparation
Soak seeds in warm water for 12-24 hours before planting to soften the seed coat and improve germination.
Sowing
Indoor       : Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last expected frost date.
Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep in seed-starting mix.
Maintain a temperature of 70-85°F (21-29°C) for optimal germination.
Outdoor     : Direct sow seeds in the garden after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed to at least 70°F (21°C).
Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep and 18-24 inches apart in rows spaced 4-6 feet apart.
Germination
Time: 5-10 days
Conditions: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use a heat mat if necessary to maintain warm soil temperatures.
Transplanting
Transplant seedlings outdoors when they have at least two true leaves and the danger of frost has passed.
Harden off seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days.
Space transplants 18-24 inches apart in rows spaced 4-6 feet apart.
Care and Maintenance
Watering     : Keep soil evenly moist, especially during fruit development. Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases.
Mulching     : Apply mulch around plants to retain soil moisture, regulate temperature, and suppress weeds.
Harvesting    : Harvest melons when they are fully ripe. The skin will turn dark green and slightly netted, and the fruit will have a sweet aroma. Cut melons from the vine, leaving a short stem attached.
