Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Scarify the seeds by gently rubbing them with sandpaper or nicking the seed coat with a knife to aid in germination. Soak the scarified seeds in water overnight to soften the seed coat.
Sowing:
Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting trays or pots filled with a well-draining seed starting mix. Place the trays or pots in a warm, sunny location or under grow lights with a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C).
Germination:
Germination typically occurs within 2-4 weeks. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Provide adequate light to encourage strong, healthy growth.
Transplanting:
Once seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves and are large enough to handle, transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden. Space plants at least 6 feet apart to allow for mature growth and proper air circulation. Provide support for climbing varieties with trellises, fences, or other structures.
Care and Maintenance:
Water regularly, especially during dry periods, but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Monitor for pests such as aphids, spider mites, and rose beetles, and treat with appropriate measures if necessary.
