Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Prior to planting, soak the Seagrape seeds in warm water for 24 to 48 hours to soften the seed coat and improve germination rates.
Sowing:
Select a planting location that receives full sun to partial shade and has well-draining soil. Seagrape trees are native to coastal areas and thrive in sandy or loamy soil. Dig a hole in the soil that is twice as wide and just as deep as the seed. Place the soaked Seagrape seed in the center of the hole and cover it with soil, pressing gently to ensure good soil-to-seed contact.
Germination:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period, which typically takes 4 to 8 weeks. Germination may be faster if the seeds are sown directly outdoors in warm, humid climates.
Transplanting:
Once the Seagrape seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves and are sturdy enough to handle, they can be transplanted to their permanent growing location. Choose a location with plenty of space for the Seagrape tree to spread out, as they can grow quite large. Dig a hole that is the same depth but twice as wide as the seedling's root ball. Carefully remove the seedling from its container and place it in the center of the hole. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly to settle the soil around the roots.
Care and Maintenance:
Water newly planted Seagrape trees regularly to keep the soil evenly moist during the establishment period. Once established, Seagrape trees are drought-tolerant and require little supplemental watering, except during prolonged dry spells. Prune Seagrape trees as needed to maintain a desired shape and size, removing any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Monitor for pests and diseases, such as scale insects or fungal infections, and treat promptly if detected. Harvest ripe Seagrape fruits when they turn from green to purple and are slightly soft to the touch. Rinse the fruits before consuming them fresh or using them in recipes.
Happy gardening!
