Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
Before sowing, soak the seeds in water for 4-6 hours to enhance germination. This helps to soften the seed coat and promote quicker sprouting. Sowing:
Indoor Sowing: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Outdoor Sowing: After the risk of frost has passed and the soil temperature is consistently above 18°C (65°F), sow seeds directly into the garden bed 1/4 inch deep. Space seeds 2-3 inches apart. Germination:
Seeds typically germinate within 7-14 days. Maintain a temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F) for optimal germination. Provide bright light or a grow light if starting seeds indoors. Transplanting:
Indoor Seedlings: Once seedlings have 2-3 true leaves and are hardened off, transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden. Space plants 18-24 inches apart. Direct Sowing: Thin seedlings to 18-24 inches apart once they are large enough to handle. Care and Maintenance:
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water at the base of the plant to avoid wetting the foliage. Staking: Support plants with stakes or cages to keep the fruit off the ground and improve air circulation. Pruning: Remove the lower leaves and any suckers that form in the leaf axils to improve airflow and focus the plant's energy on producing fruit.
