Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
No special preparation is required for Buddleia seeds. However, scarification (nick the seed coat) or soaking seeds in water overnight may enhance germination rates.
Sowing:
Sow seeds indoors 8-12 weeks before the last frost date or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. If sowing indoors, use seed-starting trays filled with a well-draining seed-starting mix. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep and lightly cover them with soil. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination occurs.
Germination:
Seeds typically germinate within 14-21 days when temperatures are consistently warm. Maintain a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C) for optimal germination. Provide ample light for seedlings, either natural sunlight or grow lights.
Transplanting:
Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost date, spacing them 24-36 inches apart. Choose a location with full sun and well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball of the seedling. Backfill the hole with soil and water thoroughly to settle the soil around the roots.
Care and Maintenance:
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during hot, dry periods. Pruning: Prune Buddleia plants in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and encourage new growth and flowering. Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to prolong the blooming period and prevent self-seeding.
