Planting Instructions:
Seed Preparation:
White Lily of the Valley seeds require stratification to break dormancy. Place seeds in a damp paper towel in a sealed plastic bag and refrigerate for 4-6 weeks before planting.
Sowing:
After stratification, sow seeds on the surface of moist seed-starting mix in trays or pots. Press seeds lightly into the soil, but do not cover them as they require light to germinate. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Germination:
Germination can take 2-3 weeks or longer. Maintain a temperature of 60-70°F (15-21°C) during the germination process. Once seedlings emerge, provide bright, indirect light.
Transplanting:
Once seedlings have developed several sets of true leaves and are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the garden. Choose a location with partial to full shade and well-drained soil enriched with compost. Space plants 6-8 inches apart.
Care and Maintenance:
Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods. Remove spent flowers to prolong blooming and prevent self-seeding. Watch for signs of pests such as slugs and snails, and treat as necessary. Lily of the Valley can be invasive, so monitor growth and remove any unwanted shoots to prevent spreading.
